Torrance Smith, President/Chief Executive Consultant


Torrance Smith began his career in the Human Resources industry over 20 years ago in the fast-paced consulting world in his hometown of Chicago, IL. These early on experiences helped pave the way in developing his leadership and relationship management skills which would ultimately prove beneficial in his life as a corporate professional as well as entrepreneur. Through the years Torrance has had the pleasure and opportunity to work with some dynamic organizations; notable companies he’s worked at over the tenure of his career include Ernst & Young, CNA Insurance, The Home Depot, PepsiCo, Ralph Lauren Corporation, Turner Broadcasting System (now Warner Media), A&E Networks and Danaher Corporation. These experiences have afforded Torrance the opportunity to transition out of corporate America and be an impactful Executive Consultant to clients. 


Having had his combined undergraduate experience at Northwestern University and National-Louis University in Evanston, IL respectively, Torrance holds a B.A. degree with a dual major in Human Resources/Behavioral Psychology from National-Louis University. He also holds an MFA degree in Interior Design from Harrington College of Design. 


Torrance is a huge advocate of supporting the arts through philanthropic endeavors as well as LGBTQ health & wellness initiatives. He is passionate around any endeavors centered around entrepreneurship, professional development and mental health and wellness for people of color. 


Torrance is a board member of the NGO Nest, an LGBTQIA Partner Advocate and a national member of SHRM.  His certifications include the following:

Discovery (HBO) where he navigated significant strategies for global streaming initiatives. Transitioning into the venture capital space, he executes vital consulting work, from providing Chief of Staff duties for portfolio companies to due diligence for VC firms, utilizing his profound understanding of the tech industry to build operational systems and processes grounded in efficacy and forward-thinking strategy. Throughout his career, Shawn has demonstrated a prodigious ability for leadership, skillfully balancing diverse and conflicting stakeholders to foster cohesion and drive successful, high-quality collaborative projects. In his current endeavors, Shawn is impassioned about networking and community, leveraging his substantial industry knowledge and connections to mentor young professionals of underrepresented communities. His proven track record stands as a testament to his deep industry knowledge and unyielding commitment to fostering collaboration and driving success in the tech industry.

    Crystal is a Talent Management expert based in the New York Metropolitan area with over 10 years of experience in the Human Resources industry. She focuses on designing HR programs and processes to attract, engage, develop and retain employees. With her focus on introducing progressive and best-in-class value talent management practices, Crystal has added value to several companies ranging from biotechnology to consumer and fashion.

  • Christina Lopez, Senior Consultant

    Christina has over 10 years of experience in the People & Culture realm. She obtained my bachelors degree in Social Science with a concentration in Community Mental Health, my experience in supervision and case management reaffirmed my desire to help people as  the next evolution of my career., hence, People & Culture was a natural next step. Over the  tenure of my career, I’ve had the opportunity to gain knowledge and expertise in the areas of full life cycle from recruitment, onboarding, performance management, organizational design and development, and employee engagement.

  • Kathy Symes, Senior Consultant

    Kathy Symes is a Human Resources professional with over fifteen years of experience focused in the areas of compensation administration, HR system optimization and rewards programs. Working in a leadership capacity within various industries from entertainment, higher education to non-profit; Symes knows firsthand the HR challenges that many organizations face. She has used her background in total rewards to affect positive change and process improvement in the organization’s where she’s worked. Symes obtained a master’s degree from CUNY Baruch, and she earned a BA from the University of Virginia. She lives in Washington, D.C. and enjoys doing voiceovers and spending time with her family.
